DoorDash announced on September 30, 2026, the launch of a text-to-order AI agent that operates within Apple Messages, allowing users to place food orders without opening the company’s app.
How the Feature Works

Users can send text prompts such as “order my usual” or “order my usual protein bowl to the office.” The agent matches the sender’s phone number to their DoorDash profile to access order history, preferences, and stored payment methods. It searches local restaurants, builds a suggested cart, and can send photos of recommended items drawn from restaurant pages.
The system supports group orders by accommodating mixed dietary preferences and varying quantities. It also extends to grocery restocking and can respond to photo uploads, such as images of a fridge to identify missing ingredients.
Availability and Context

Access is currently limited to a U.S. beta waitlist for iPhone users, with sign-up available at doordash.com/text. The feature builds on DoorDash’s earlier in-app “Ask DoorDash” chatbot introduced in June 2026.
By enabling ordering through familiar messaging apps, the agent aims to simplify routine purchases and compete with other delivery platforms while aligning with broader trends toward personal AI assistants.
