Effects of Swallowing the Red Pill

How shady are men in real life? The query permeated the space like the odor of a neighboring town’s garbage fire—invisible but ever-present. By 2016, a number of buzzwords, such as “male privilege,” “rape culture,” and “men’s rights,” had taken over the disorganized state of gender politics, but uncertainty still persisted.

A few unidentified males withdrew to The Red Pill, a Reddit-hosted online forum, in the midst of this chaos to wallow in their hatred.

What is Red Pill?

Effects of Swallowing the Red Pill

The term comes from a scene in The Matrix, which was released in 1999, in which Laurence Fishburne presents Keanu Reeves with a decision: The narrative ends when you take the blue pill, and you wake up in your bed believing anything you choose.

If you choose to remain in Wonderland and swallow the red pill, I’ll demonstrate just how far down the rabbit hole you may go.

Are Women Really the Problem?

The “reality” that women rule the world without accepting responsibility for it and that its male victims are not allowed to voice their complaints is the rabbit hole in this situation.

The so-called manosphere, which is a network of websites concerned with both the men’s rights movement and how to pick up women, is therefore made up of The Red Pill, a continuous, multi-voiced, up-to-the-minute male complaint nestling at its center.

manosphere

The most abhorrent viewpoints in the manosphere tend to get the most attention, such as Roosh V’s argument that it should be OK to rape a woman on private property (a bit of hateful stupidity which he later claimed to be a parody).

When a local group of female boxers threatened to violently disrupt the gathering in February, Roosh V was forced to cancel it. He had planned to bring together like-minded guys on the grounds of the provincial legislature in Toronto.

But evaluating The Red Pill by its members’ most radical remarks is, if not unjust, then at the very least unreliable.

Certain amounts of vileness abound, including sophisticated conspiracies created out of blatant sexism and a dislike for the independence of women. However, the majority of the remarks are really poor and far more subdued.

My Experience

In the hours and hours I spent traversing this online neighborhood, I largely observed wild males crying in despair, making up massive amounts of bullshit about women, and pining for the least scrap of self-assurance and camaraderie.

There are rants against feminists, tips on how to masturbate less, ideas about why women dream about rape, tales of conflicts with boyfriends, instructions on how to approach people on the street, and, most importantly, gym and diet plans in the discussion threads.

How shady are men in real life?

Reading Consequently, The Red Pill provides two viable responses to the query, “How shady are men in real life?”

The Red Pill is first positioned as another poisonous techno culture on a spectrum of digital misogyny: on Twitter, any woman who says anything even somewhat provocative will routinely face a deluge of direct physical threats.

Sites like 4chan operate primarily for the purpose of posting thousands of revenge porn photographs without permission. There will certainly be sexual harassment of Xbox Live players.

According to this viewpoint, the response to the issue of how shady are men in real life is “actually very shitty.”

However, a whole other strategy is shown with a minor change in emphasis: how shady are guys really? In other words, how do these men behave in real life when they act differently online?

One of the greatest paradoxes of our day is raised in The Red Pill: are we truly our true selves online, or not?
